Hospital bag

Hi all, currently 20 weeks pregnant with my first and starting to think about what I need for my hospital bag - I have no idea of how much of anything I will need to take to the hospital for both me and baby! X

I hardly used any of the things I packed and had to get my partner to bring other stuff in for me. One thing I didn’t think about was how many newborn/up to one month outfits we would need. We were only in 2 days and 1 of those baby was in Nicu/SBCU so didn’t wear clothes and we got through about 3 outfits. Having said that it all depends on size of baby!

Ready made milk, nappies, clothes including your own, pads for yourself(lots) , blankets, hats, gloves etc fresh pjs xx

I should have packed more pads for me. My husband had to get more twice. Flip flops! I was incredibly hot in hospital so didn’t wear half the stuff I packed - dressing gown, jumpers etc.

Honestly I could write you an extensive list because I have OCD with these things and I can talk for the country 🤣🤣 but one amazing way to pass time and get excited about your delivery date etc is watching alllllll the videos on youtube about this - I found them so fun and I learnt something new from most. So definitely try doing that when you’re feeling a bit low on energy or are bored and time just isn’t passing 😊 But watch quite a few to get a general idea as some people get carried away xx

I would under pack then have a bag of extras that stays in the car. Then you’re not hauling around a massive bag, but it’s readily available if you need it. I did this with my first and it was genius :)

Long length phone charger is a must. Water bottles. Outfit for birth then loose comfy clothes for after (bear in mind hospitals are always so hot) 4 sleepsuits and a hat or two for baby, nappies, dummies and milk. One tip I was given that ended up being super useful is have a little plastic zip-locked bag named ‘emergency bag’ with one nappy, one vest, sleep-suit and hat. That way, if any emergency does occur you don’t have to think and can grab the bag and give the staff what they need. We ended up using ours so are useful

@Emily what a great idea for the emergency bag! Wish I had known this as would have been helpful as I had an emergency c section

Flip flops or really thin slippers. A nightie so you are comfy but with some air down there! MASSIVE knickers… I’m talking huge granny pants in 2 sizes bigger than your normal size, pads… lots and lots of maternity pads. For baby, a couple of onesies, some nappies, some scratch mitts… that’s about it! Anything else you might need can be bought in by your partner post birth.
