A healthy salad with a side is a good option. Things like chipotle that will let you do a bowl version of things. It places that have whole wheat and brown rice options. Honestly, it helped to look at the menu ahead of time because I could plan a little what I could eat or look up estimated carb numbers/calories. Once you find a place you can do and eat things at, encourage folks to go out with you there. Make sure you get to pick rather than struggling to find something on a new menu. Also, occasional cheat days are usually acceptable. I didn't go too wild, but I had a cupcake for my baby shower for example. Still a god idea to aim for healthy at your shower, but having a meal with higher numbers was fine with my midwife. They generally are looking at the average across a week for tracking how you are doing.
Iv coped well with Chinese restaurant and takeout and a Frankie and bennies. For Chinese Iv had fried rice, and scezhuan beef from the restaurant and chicken curry with fried rice from the takeaway. A couple of prawn crackers too. For Frankie and bennies I had breaded chicken wrapped in bacon cheese and BBQ sauce with a side of coleslaw and sweet potato fries. Didn’t eat all of the fries. My bloods were good after these meals. I also regularly have homemade style Nando’s at home and think I’d cope well with the restaurant. I have seasoned chicken, Nando’s sauce (this is really low in carbs, I have it with most of my meals at home) some rice, coleslaw and veg
There’s must be something you can have can you see the menu online? At home I would often have steak, 3 egg sized new potatoes and lots of full fat mayo, lots of green beans it’s all about pairing foods check out gestational diabetes uk on Facebook they’re great they have gd friendly brownies you could make to take so you don’t feel left out etc,
I know, it is so so hard bc I want to eat rubbish all the time. However, I had tandoori chicken and some butter chicken last night, no rice or naan and it didn’t spike me! I also walked for 30 mins after just because I was afraid of the sugar in butter chicken. As long as you eat enough protein and fats in the beginning of the meal and eat your carbs after I think that should help with your glucose levels.
Also you can spike and crash within the hour so if your testing after the hour and your levels are low/ not what you’d expect after that meal you most likely spike and crashed eating something not so great
Try eating lots of veg first and then just a few slices of pizza with plenty of cheese and maybe some chicken. It is your baby shower! I think one spiked reading wouldn’t be too bad.
