Cot bed transition

Looking for tips or advice, is anyone's little one in a cot bed/bed? We've transitioned our wee boy to the cot bed and the first three nights we just said night night and left and he went to sleep (just as he did when he was in his cot) but the last few nights he just runs to his bedroom door banging, screaming and crying til one of us goes in and it just continues til I end up going in and stroking his hair til he falls asleep. It takes about 45mins from getting him in bed til he falls asleep. Any advice on how we can get him into bed, stay in bed with no upset?🥺 he has a comforter, temp is perfect, he has a starlight projector with gentle lullaby - all things he's had from day dot. We also read a story or two when we put him to bed.

We have to sit with my girl too otherwise she gets up crying and standing at the door x

@Nicole do you have to sit with her til she falls asleep? My boy was crying and banging at the door, it just breaks my heart

Is there a reason you moved to a bed? It's quite young for him to understand to stay in bed, they don't really have any impulse control at this age. Also they go through a bit of a regression at this age with separation anxiety so probably makes it harder to just leave the room at the moment. Perhaps make sure he's really tired before going to bed, cut his nap down or increase wake time might help

@Nicola we weren't ready to do it ourselves but he was nearly out of his caught one day (climbing over the edge) and I just knew now that he'd figured that out, he'll end up going until he falls out fully. I'll give that a go, thank you❤️
