Reduced movements

How to quantify if the baby has been moving less? What should be considered as reduced? I am confused and worried at same time

Try to eat something sugary or drink something really cold and see if there’s progress

have a cold drink, something fizzy works best but ice cold water is good too and give it a few mins and see if baby reacts to it. you’ll know your baby better than anyone so if you feel you have reduced movements then it’s best to get checked out

@Dada thankyou will do now

Always get checked out if you are worried x

As Fay says, if you're concerned it is always worth making the trip to your maternity triage. Mine always made me feel welcome and never like I was wasting their time, the only downside is the looooong wait. Your may be different

Yes there is long wait but then do they admit you or how do they make sure movements are fine?

Always go to triage, dont hesitate. If you are past 26 weeks you will have CTG monitoring (in the UK). I have been in 7 times as im anxious, so please don't hesitate x

I rang triage on Sunday for reduced movements. Even though she had moved a little in the morning, Saturday night she wasn't active. So I told them I wasn't satisfied with her usual movements and they told me to go in that day. They will always rather you go in and it be nothing than not go in. When you're there they will listen with the doppler and probably CTG monitoring. That's what they did with me. Depending on what happens after that, they may arrange a scan also x

Thankyou guys for the advices

Count the kicks charity do wristbands with a slider on so you can count each period of movement in a day. I’ve found these really help me keep track and quantify any reduced movement in previous pregnancies

@Arzoo did you go get checked? X

@Arzoo they’ll triage you first and then depending how busy you’ll have a bit of a wait, then they’ll put you on a bed and put these strap things on your belly and monitor baby with that. i was a bit further along with my reduced movements so they gave me this button to press when i felt movements too, but idk if they do that with everyone

If you’re of course concerned go and get checked out, but this is my second pregnancy, and having done this multiple times for my first (more anxious I think/question things more) one thing to note, is if you continue to go in fairly regularly with reduced movements towards the end even if you go on monitor and all is fine they’ll push for you to be induced - this happened to me. This time I’m desperate for a birth centre birth, and if I go in too many times after 37w I won’t ’qualify’ to give birth at the birth centre, or would have to sign a paper to say ‘we do not advise this’ even if all movements are fine once on monitor. Just thought I’d give you heads up, as that was new to me! But of course if you’re worried always get checked. But I’d be inclined to have a fizzy drink, choccy / lie down for 30 mins or so to see if you get any movement x

@Fay Hi Fay, thankyou for checking on me. Later, movements got better so I did not go to triage. Though baby must be sleeping at the time I was worried , patterns change may be

@Lauren thankyou so much for your honest guidance. Appreciate it. Must say the induction bit is a must to think about. And yes my movements got better with me eating something so I did not go to triage. But it is just that with time, I have noticed that movements have become swift. Is it because of the more weight accumulation on the belly/ tightness? But perhaps I felt better so stopped overthinking😅🥹

Hey @Arzoo, if you ever feel movements are not as you feel you should always go to triage. Every pregnancy is different and having cold drinks or something sweet isn't the best thing to do and is not the advice that is given by medical professionals. I can speak from personal experience, in my last pregnancy, i hesitated and waited and listened to others, having cold drinks, etc and just thinking baby was sleeping. Sadly my baby ended up being stillborn. So please do not ever hesitate to go to triage. Every pregnancy is different x

@Sara sorry to hear about the mishap. Thankyou for sharing . I will not more careful now
