Relactation Tips

Hey Mamas, does anyone have tips on relactation? I had to stop breastfeeding my baby for 2 weeks because my niples were very sore and bleeding but now my baby doesnt want to go back to it

I have heard you can feed the baby with a bottle first and then just offer the breast as a little top off to help ease the baby back into it. You don't want to start the baby off on the breast because that could confuse the baby and lead to aggressive feeding and sore nipples again and the baby may get frustrated because it takes a minute for the milk to flow sometimes. Good luck momma and don't get discouraged. I have heard it can take a while but it is not impossible.

get your supply back up with pumping and then when you’re ready start pumping and then try to latch baby once your milk is flowing well. this combo should decrease frustration at the breast

My girl is a month old and has finally started breastfeeding successfully. We started with Ashley’s suggestion, and used nipple shields so that it’s more similar to the bottle. After a few days, she was able to start her feeds on the boob and stay that way. Hopefully things keep progressing!

@Laura that's awesome Laura! Are you still using the nipple shield? Or did she go back to straight breast?
