Universal credit help please mamas

Going back to work after 4 whole years doing lunch cover 11:30-2:30 but I need my son with me as there’s no one else to watch him. So I will be paying for childcare. Problem is this nursery only does 8-1/1-6 no middle timings so I will have to pay for the whole day even though I’m not working the whole day 😭. Will universal credit help with childcare costs can I claim it all back ? I also get staff discount can I use both ? How does it work ? My son has been in nurseries before when I used to work but we are in a new area so they is a change. Would you say it’s worth it ? I would make roughly 600+ per month. My monthly bill will be £350 for full time nursery for him. Also me I would be working 15 hours. Which doesn’t qualify me for 30 funded hours. But his dad and me are not together but he works 40 hours and he helps with childcare. Well. Will be helping with fees. Can I then be entitled to 30 funded hours if he’s helping? Even if we ain’t in the same house ? Any advice much appreciated

You could get up to 85% of the childcare fees back. I’d say you can use staff discount as that has nothing to do with UC. No idea about the partner situation. I would say no as otherwise you would have to do a joint UC claim.

You CAN claim back up to 85% of your nursery bill but UC will likely question why you’re claiming back a full day when you’re only working 3 hours of the day and they’re getting quite strict with what they pay back. You should be able to use staff discount and UC as they aren’t related. You’d only get the funded hours if your child is living with the parent entitled to them, you can’t claim on behalf of your ex partner.

Thanks for the reply ladies… Also how many hours do I have to work? I’m only gonna be doing 15 will they mind? Uc that is

Depends how old your child is? If they’re 3 or older then UC will expect you to earn £893 a month otherwise you’ll still continue to be called in for meetings
