Wine & Breastfeeding

Will it be okay to have a glass of wine while breastfeeding or should I pump & dump? It’s my first alcoholic drink postpartum so I’m sure I’ll be a little buzzed 😂

What I do is pump before I drink a glass of wine and then wait about 4 hours to pump again. Usually you only have to wait 2-3 hours per drink but I always like to drink a MEGA PINT of wine so I wait a little longer than recommended lol🙂😂

Yep, pump/nurse, then drink your glass. By the time the baby is ready again, it should be out of your system ☺️

I nursed/pumped first and then had my glass of wine last weekend and it was my first after having the baby. I was still slightly paranoid so I used some of the frozen milk I had during the night and went back to my regular routine in the morning and she was just fine.

I’ve always been told to have a drink while pumping/feeding so that it’s not in your bloodstream yet and then it’ll be minimum 2 hours before your next nursing time for it to work itself back out of your system. This is what I did/plan to do again and have a healthy almost 3 year old. Enjoy, just within moderation!

O, here's an article, with research, from the author of "Expecting the unexpected" and "Cribsheet" https://parentdata.org/diet-and-breastfeeding/

Drink while feeding! It takes about an hour for alcohol to peak in the bloodstream and then the level falls again so if you drink while feeding you should be giving yourself the right amount of time between feeds to limit the amount of alcohol in your breast milk.
