I had severe gallstones back in 2023, I spent days between a&e and the doctors. They eventually got that bad I was admitted to hospital with choleystitis, where the gallstones blocked the duct to my liver. I had to wait for the swelling and infection to go before they would remove my gallbladder. I was nervous as hell for surgery but the daily pain I was in and risk of more hospital admissions there was no way I was going to live with it. I would say unless you are going to live a total fat free food life, there is no other way around it. I joined a Facebook group for gallstones, it was helpful and put my mind at rest. People on there who decided to live with it and those like me who had the surgery. Hope whatever you choose, you feel better soon x
@Jessica thanks for sharing your thoughts How was the recovery after the surgery and how are you eating after surgery. Do you still have to be very careful about your diet etc?
Hi, I recovered well, I ensured I got up and did small walks round the house, it would have been easy to just lay still but the small walks helped. Don’t get me wrong I felt like I’d been hit by a bus for a couple of days, the pain was intense but it subsided. My surgery was 3 hours long though had I had to have gallstones removed from the bile tubes too so wasn’t as straight forward as just gallbladder removal. I was back at work after ten days as a teacher. I have been able to eat whatever I have liked since the day of my surgery, I took it steady for the first week or so but I had pizza, chips and whatever just in small amounts, I can now eat anything. I know for some, it’s not the case, but it’s the toss up between been restrictive because of gallbladder pains, or been restrictive because of maybe getting the runs if that makes sense x
@Jessica this literally happened to me 6 weeks after my baby was born, I also had severe jaundice and was so poorly!
@Abigail oh god yeah, I was as yellow as a Simpson!
I suffered with my gallbladder for 10 years and finally had it out in July 2023. Best decision ever, no more pain x
No suggestion here, but I am about to do my surgery in a couple of hours, wish me luck!
