Baby wasn't gaining weight and either I wasn't pumping right or it wasn't working for me - but almost nothing came out (I'd get more if I hand expressed but that was taking way too long cos it was still just a couple of drops each time. I still breastfed for almost 6 months along with bottle feeding 🤷🏻♀️ think it was more of a comfort thing for my LO
I had to supplement my twins and my singleton with formula until my milk came in fully at about day 3-4. I'm glad the hospital had this available for my babies. When I had a cold and took pseudoephedrine when I was exclusively pump feeding my singleton, my milk supply dropped to like 1/4 of what it was and I had to dip into my freezer stash to feed her until it came back after I realized and stopped the meds. My baby girl was a laaaaazy latcher and hated working for the milk when nursing so at 3 months old I quit trying to nurse altogether and switched to exclusively pumping for her until she was 14 months. My husband was able to help out with feeds too so that was a nice benefit. There's a recent story I read of a baby dying because the hospital made the mother feel like formula wasn't an option and all those signs were there that the baby was starving to death. I'm not sure if she tried pumping to see how much she could get, but baby lost a crazy amount of weight, no wet/dirty diapers, and nursing 24/7
@Charlotte I was the same as this, however I was over producing but still made to pump and give extra formula, but my baby had severe jaundice and I could only feed her every 4 hours🫠 ended up with mastitis shockingly
My boy lost 11% birth weight and it took 5 weeks to gain it back. By 7 weeks he was only 150g more than birth weight. He had breastmilk jaundice and needed phototherapy 3 times. He latched wrong due to a tongue tie so I got it cut privately last week which has helped. But, he’s always hungry and crying. He’s tiny still and they won’t discharge him. He falls asleep on my boob so I pump but it’s barely 50ml. I use haaka for letdown and barely drops. I’m taking supplements, drinking litres a day, eating grains and dairy and everything the internet says.
Number 1 but also baby was sucking then crying that it wasn’t coming out.
My LG wasn't latching and was jaundice at day 2, so I was pumping and giving colostrum I had in the freezer (luckily managed to get a decent amount before she arrived). Due to a long induction, it took till day 5 for my milk to come in properly and I was exhausted from trying to latch then top up with expressed milk so my supply was low and couldn't keep up with what she wanted. Ended up adding formula at day 5 to supplement what I could pump then switched to formula fully on day 7 in order to keep up with what our LG wanted.
Baby lost over 11% of birth weight by day 5 and I was pressured to pump and top up. I wasn’t producing enough to feed my baby and pumping didn’t help. So grateful that formula exists.
