Breast milk storage

I’ve been EBF for 4 months but starting to pump to build up a bit of a storage of milk. Just wondering how you all store your milk for those in similar boat? Are bags the best option so they freeze easier?! I’m trying to work out the best routine / practice for this so any tips would be great! And do you all sterilise breast pump once a day and just wash in between? I’m only going to be pumping once maybe twice a day I think. Thanks in advance!

I use the medela storage bags for the freezer. Would recommend storage bags, they store easily if you lay them flat. I sterilise my pump once a day using a Milton tablet and in between I wash with soapy water and then finish with a hot water rinse from the kettle (I pump twice a day).

Before you build a big stash try your little one with some of your defrosted milk. Mine has high lipase so if it's frozen and defrosted it goes soapy and tastes vile 🙃 completely safe to drink its just horrible 😂 some babies will still drink it but my 1st born wasn't a fan x

Storage bags for the freezer yes You don’t need to sterilise pumps at all. I only washed my pump once a day in hot soapy water!! However since I’ve had mastitis I’ve been advised to sterilise my pump between uses until the mastitis is gone as the infection can linger on the pump. But normally you do not need to do this

I use lanisoh bags but I would say the measurement on the bags is a bit off so go by my bottles I pop my pump parts in a bag in the fridge after use then if I need to use them again in 24hrs I do straight from the fridge

@Rachel oh interesting, is that without washing them first?

@Sîan good tip! Thank you
