C section - removal of dressing

Hey just to give anyone the heads up if you have a c section so you don’t have to feel the pain I did 😂 I went to get my dressing removed on day 5 after a c section and I was told to keep my dressing bone dry when leaving the hospital I was also told at the pre op appointment to not shave down stairs at all. Long story short when removing the dressing the lady asked if I had soaked it for 24 hours before which I was told not to do she also said she doesn’t know why we are told not to shave the area as it makes the dressing removal a free wax on the nhs around a already swollen and sore scar site. So yeah just trying to save any off you the pain as this was worse than the c section itself by far !

Thank you for this! So it’s best to soak it first and better to shave?

Yes I would! I wish I had known !

I had to remove my dressing before I was discharged from the hospital (instructed by the midwife on the ward at the hospital) which was about 27 hours after the procedure and agree it was a free wax I didn’t need! 😂

I was told to shave before my C-section at my pre op- it seems there's a lot of conflicting advice given on this. I wasn't told to do any soaking though, I didn't have any issues when the midwife removed my dressing 3 days after birth, it came off easily and didn't hurt.

I was told to only let water flow over it, not to submerge it at all then she sprayed it when removing and it came off real easy! I was also asked not to shave for 2 weeks prior to op! It’s crazy how different it is from one hospital to another x
