Breastfeeding while sick

Hi mums, Today I started to have symptoms of gastroenteritis and I already threw up a couple of times. How can I feed my baby if I am feeling so poorly? I cannot even drink water without vomiting, it’s awful and I am worried to infect my baby and to give her very poor quality milk right now. Without considering that I could also have to run to the bathroom during the feed. Any suggestion? or similar experience?

You can still feed baby in fact it's better to do so as your milk will contain the antibodies of the Infection you are fighting. It's so hard I literally had this not long ago and had to launch him into his cot (safely haha) to run to throw up. I had to express right after being sick as I only had a small window before I needed to lie down again. Failing that maybe just top up with formula for now for someone else to feed baby till you're feeling better. If it helps this only lasted 24 hours for me this bug seems to be doing the rounds!

thanks Laura. did you baby managed to escape the virus?

Your antibodies will protect the baby, but it’s very important to drink as much as you can to maintain production. Good luck 🍀

No because he's the one who gave it to me 🙈 but one of the mums I met at a group who bf her baby did it was only her who got it xx
