How to increase milk supply

I am 31 days postpartum, and I feel like I keep seeing all of these videos of these women having a huge over supply, and I'm just getting enough for my daughter… I've been taking any and all advice on how to increase my supply but I don't have enough to even get me a day ahead letalone feeding one or two sessions ahead. Am i too late on increasing my supply? The first two weeks she was in the NICU so I heard that is when your largest volume comes in, but I am hoping there are some other ways out there that I am able to increase my supply I don't want to switch to formula( just a personal preference )

I’m curious too. But I heard drinking coconut water will help and stimulation whether from massaging the breasts or from doing the “adult things” with your husband 😅.

The over suppliers you are seeing on TikTok are not the norm and will make you feel terrible! In order to get myself ahead a little bit, I had to supplement with formula, 50/50 breast milk and formula for a few days. I am fortifying my breast milk anyways so it wasn't that hard to just make some formula and add it with the fortified milk. I was worried about my supply too. I have started adding 1 tbsp brewer's yeast to my oatmeal and smoothies daily. I also made lactation cookies which uses oatmeal, brewer's yeast, and flaxseed. That took my daily pumped total (I'm exclusively pumping while trying to get her back on the breast) from 15-18 oz to 25-27 oz. Power pumping didn't affect my supply. Staying hydrated is very important. I will say I tried masturbating before pumping and didn't see any difference. I don't know if it needs to actually be sex or not but I haven't been cleared for intercourse yet so we haven't tried.

I was 6 weeks pp when I started pumping to increase my supply. I had an undersupply due to her inability to nurse from TT. While I never had the oversupply you see on TikTok, I went from pumping ~12oz a day to meeting my babies needs at around ~32oz. I supplemented with formula until I had enough saved to be a day ahead. I pumped every 2 hours starting from about 7am to about 9pm, then once overnight. I used a double pump to save time and it needs to be a good pump, a wearable probably won’t cut it for increasing supply. 20 min each pump session, even if milk stops before then, switch back to massage when milk stops flowing to try for another let down. I did hands on pumping (massage the whole time) and tried to do skin to skin before I started pumping, sometimes I held her between my legs while I pumped. I aimed to drink at least 800ml water between every pump. I took breastfeeding multivitamins, an iron supplement and ate lots of oats. (will cont…)

Power pumping really helped me. I did it for 5-7 days in a row at a time, cause you don’t want your body to start thinking that’s the norm! Also if I couldn’t be with her, watching a video where she cried helped stimulate let down for me? Then I’d watch videos where she was happy while I pumped. It is such hard work to pump, any breastmilk you give is golden so you’re doing an amazing job!! Good luck ♥️♥️

A significant over supply is not normal and is honestly a huge pain. I'm 15 weeks pp and I have a natural oversupply (I've been pumping at least 100oz/day since day 3 pp) and I would love to be a just enougher. I have daily painful clogs. I've had mastitis requiring IV antibiotics 4 times. And I cannot go more than 2.5-3 hours without pumping. I was unable to breastfeed for the first 6 weeks of my son's life because he couldn't handle the flow and the amount of milk. Even now, I still have to pump after feeding him if I want to keep from getting sick. Staying hydrated and eating well is really all you can do to support your supply, but the videos you're seeing are not giving you the possible reality of a true oversupply.

An oversupply isn't something I'd aim for. Just comes with discomfort and risk of mastitis! If your baby is feeding on demand and putting on weight with good nappy output, don't worry x

Those women online are so popular because they're over producers. It's almost entirely genetic. Don't get worked up over that stuff. Rest (I know that one is near impossible!), healthy eating, staying hydrated, and frequent nursing / pumping are best. I tried EVERYTHING with my boys. Dark beer, ice cream, oats, nutritional yeast, pumping at least 20 minutes after every feed, I even took so much fenugreek you could smell me from across the room! Nothing improved my supply. My sister is going through exactly the same thing now with her first. A lot of it just comes down to genetics unfortunately. Just do what you can, supplement as needed, and know that there will be a million other ways to be a good mother for your child besides this one small issue.

Milk thistle and hydration packs.

Try milk tea. Green tea with quarter cup of milk. Or black tea. Any tea basically. Try lactation cookies- they're made with oatmeal, flaxseed, brewers yeast. They are super good and give me an excuse to have a treat when I'm stressed out. Hah. But oatmeal is good for you tho. I put protein powder in them also to feel full and not keep over eating. You have to eat and drink specific things. Also, fennel seed tea. Buy fennel, put boiling water, strain and drink. As well as fenugreek tea. These things are generally good for you anyways. Then you need to pump at least 3 times during the night bc that's when supply is highest. 12am, 4am, 8am are the critical points and I get a little bit of an over supply sometimes, but most of the times it's enough or just slightly enough.

@Racel yea I was an over supplier for a few days and I got a painful clog. I was terrified of mastitis and had to stop pumping so my boobs could drain out through the lymphatic system... My supply tanked and my boob healed, no more clog. Then it took another few days to get my supply back up.
