follow on milk?

Hey! my baby is on the first cow and gate, i’m pretty certain back when she was born the HV or midwife (can’t remember which one) said to stick to that until 1 then wean onto blue milk instead of changing to the follow on 6m+ milk as it’s pointless. Is that what most people do?

That was the advice of the midwife that ran our NCT class. She said there was no need to change from first milk until they move on to cow's milk at 12m

My HV said the exact same thing x

I feel like the follow on milk is a bit of a con for parents to keep spending loads of money on the brand ! When my son was 1 we finished up the formula and then switched to cows milk with no issues

Stick to first milk x I follow a HV on TikTok who said basically it’s illegal to advertise first milk as it’s a necessity and they weren’t allowed to act better than other brands (they all have to meet the same standards for ingredients like vitamins etc) so the formula companies created follow on milk purely to compete against each other and be able to advertise etc 🙄 Not sure if it’s accurate but makes sense and she’s said a few times x

We switched to full fat cows milk at 12 months x

Hiya, I had the same advice. However, I know that I can get follow on milk cheaper than I can get first infant milk... So I'm thinking of switching to follow on milk from the same brand I use to save some money as we still spend so much on formula!! If it's basically the same thing... Then why not get it for cheaper?!

@Annie Yeah this is correct. There's no need to switch to follow on milk. Infant milk will give them all they need for 12m until they can switch to cows milk. By law in the UK all formula milk must be nutritionally identical so there is no nutritional difference between any of the variations or brands on the market.

No need to switch but you can only give cows milk from 12 months as feeds. You CAN use it in cooking their foods before then if you wish but they can't have it replace breast or formula milk until 12 months.

I heard they were similar but you can get offers on stage 2 milk whereas you can’t with stage 1 so it should end up being cheaper if you switch. I maybe wrong but I think stage 2 has a bit more iron? I think it’s just the stage 3 stuff that’s a con as they can have cows milk at 1
