@Erin I’ve tried to leave the house and she still won’t take a bottle, she just gags and then gets hysterical. I’m getting to the point where I think I’m just going to have to leave her for the day with my husband and she’ll eventually have to take one because she’ll be so hungry. I don’t want to have to do that but I’m struggling so much, I never get a break from her
No advice here but I have 2 friends that tried everything and the only thing baby drinks milk from is actually the 70ml bottle from Aptamil.
@Danni thank you, I might have to give it a go. Ideally I didn’t want to give my girl formula (nothing against it, just my preference) but if she did take it and it gave me a break once in a while then I think I’d be happy to give her it
Hey! Might be worth trying to get baby used to the teat in a none pressured way first. So by just offering it as a teething toy first without milk and they can start to learn to accept it that way, then eventually attached to a bottle with a bit of milk, but maybe not when they’re actually hungry at first just randomly throughout the day. I’ve personally not tried this, but I remember someone mentioning it worked really well in the Dec 2022 group back when my first was little 💕
@Kristen yes, that what my lactation consultant recommended! We just offered it as something to chew on/have him figure out how to suckle in it.
I haven’t done it yet but my health visitor actually recommended a cup for if i ever do want to transition my baby to taking expressed milk. The NHS hospital document (https://www.uhs.nhs.uk/Media/UHS-website-2019/Patientinformation/Pregnancyandbirth/Alternative-methods-of-feeding-your-baby-3008-PIL.pdf ) states that a cup feeding is better than a bottle and that you should try it before moving to bottle and paced feeding. If you google cup feeding there’s lots of info online, it’s a different type than a sippy cup and you can start it from newborn age. I had never heard of it until after i gave birth but i think that’s what i would try my baby with as he wouldn’t even take to nipple shields so i can’t imagine a bottle going down well!
Lansinoh bottle is the only one my baby has accepted, still hit and miss but much better than others. I had to be totally out of sight though, and my partner used a thermometer to make sure it was warmed to the same temp as breast milk which really seemed to help. Try freshly expressed milk too, frozen can sometimes taste strange if high in lipase xxx
Let them explore the teet. Nothing in it, until they suck it. Took me 3 weeks trying everyday with my girl and she takes it now. I just used Asdas £1 own bottle and she doesn’t have a dummy x
I get that, I was struggling with that too! I found that if I leave the house the little one will take from family/fiance. Hopefully he’ll take from me soon. It has def taken many tries though.. Do you have someone that can help? My LO is 5 months on the 25th and literally just had this be successful (but I wasn’t being super diligent until recently) The lansinoh is what we found works best, I think it’s because they can figure out how to get milk easier. I feel like all the bottles that say “just like breast feeding” and crap like that are a gimmick.. they just want to eat. 🤷♀️
