How many oz of breastmilk?

Hi, Currently exclusively pumping and wondering if anyone is offering their little ones 6 oz/180ml bottles of breastmilk. The lactation consultant and the tongue tie specialist we worked with both said that babies shouldn’t ever need more than 5oz bottles of breastmilk in one go. My little one finish’s 150 every single time and is still hungry! 🙈

Don’t quote me on this but I was under the impression that with breast milk it is constantly changing for the needs of your baby. I believe you can always offer the same amount as calories are adjusted to your baby as they grow whereas formula is always the same so needs to be upped as they get bigger. I always give my baby 120/130ml as that all I get out when I pump and sometimes she does finish the bottle so quickly I worry that she’s hungry and needs more but then she goes to sleep fine with no fussing or crying, other times she can’t finish the bottle.

I read this elsewhere and wondered about it too. I’m unsure if the breast milk changes if the baby isn’t latching on and have read to rub the babies saliva onto your nipples to let your body know what the baby needs. My girl is on 160ml but I feel like sometimes she could drink more and other times she pushes the bottle away towards the end. How often are you both feeding? I don’t know if I’d be able to produce enough if she wanted more as I’m struggling a bit to produce enough just now

@Laura yes actually you are 100% right, I’m both feeding on breast and expressing a couple of bottles for my partner to feed so I guess in my case she is latching on but for Kristen this wouldn’t be the case. My baby is feeding around 7 times a day and that’s a mix of expressed and on breast, sometimes this is absolutely fine but I can tell when she’s going through a growth spurt as she’ll want a lot more. I think my supply is dropping or maybe it’s just stabilising as my baby is fussing a bit when feeding at the moment.
