Extreme anger second trimester / pets / prenatal depression

Hi, I’m extremely worried I have a 5/6 month old kitten and I am currently so angry with my kitten - he keeps biting and lashing out- yes I’m aware he can sense I’m pregnant / somethings different.. I give him as much attention as I can but then he just bites and won’t listen and keeps making my blood boil doing things he knows he shouldn’t be doing. My anger is getting worse - I also have bpd which contributes to my high intense emotions and overreactions.. I’ve written to my gp today as I’m certain I also have prenatal depression 😔 I just don’t know what to do I am so worried that me being angry and over reacting will affect my baby who means everything to me without even meeting them.

@Amy I never said I could train it - I was explaining I’m worried about my anger around it all as I don’t wanna stress the cat out even more/ or the baby. He has toys and I got him some different ones which should be here this week to see if it helps him at all as I can see he’s bored of the other toys now. I don’t shout directly at the cat I shout in general of anger and go to a separate room but he can obviously still hear/ sense hence why I’ve contacted my gp bc I’m aware my depression/anger is getting worse. Again I NEVER ONCE blamed my kitten at all in my post and was sure to write it’s my anger / prenatal depression bpd and that I’ve written to my gp to try sort it - so I don’t appreciate you insinuating i ever blamed my kitten once, or that it’s his fault in that post. (all I said was he’s doing things on purpose at times that he knows he shouldn’t) which I know is bc he can sense I’m pregnant and it’s distressing him, regardless thanks for the advice.

I’m so sorry you’re struggling. Emotions can be is heightened during pregnancy. Emotions with BPD are already hard to manage and you seem really aware you need support which is a good thing. You’ve done the right thing by reaching out to your GP. Are you UK based? If so could self refer to taking therapies or asking for support off the peri natal community team. If you can afford it privately then dialectic behaviour therapy or DBT can be really beneficial. Could ask if the personality disorder hub can support. Hope you feel better soon xx

@Helen thank you so much, I appreciate that. Yeah I’m UK based I’m currently on waiting list for talking therapies been on it a while, and I can try the perinatal team again but they rejected me before bc I wasn’t high risk :( - I will also look into the personality disorder hub as haven’t done this… again thank you so much for your help /advice and thank you 💓

Ask your midwife again for a referral to the perinatal team. Since you mention the waiting list for talking therapy, have you bern on it since before you got pregnant? If so, it is worth contacting them again and update that you are pregnant. You will be prioritised if you are pregnant or in the first 12 months pp. A friend of mine (not a mum) was referred shortly before I was (new mum), she waited about 9 months. I got a call back within 3 days and my therapy started about a week after that. I just used the online self referral form: https://www.nhs.uk/mental-health/talking-therapies-medicine-treatments/talking-therapies-and-counselling/nhs-talking-therapies/

@Rhiannon okay I will try, and yes I had a call last month and told them I’m pregnant and he put me as priority but just seems to be doing nothing . They’re aware I’m pregnant and I’m getting no help still it’s overwhelming as I’m having to keep myself strong for my baby all on my own, which at times is very hard. Thanks for your advice and help I will look into these x
