Elective c section

Has anybody opted to have an elective c section? If so how did you go about asking for one? I’m 31 weeks and have been thinking a lot about it, I’m already under a consultant due to other reasons so not sure if I would ask my consultant or my midwife?

I did! I suppose you could ask either consultant or midwife. I asked my midwife officially at about 34 weeks but they knew beforehand that I was considering it. They’ll refer you to the section team and you’ll get a pre op appt beforehand and they’ll book you in too x

I had an elective section in August, they ask you at the hospital when you go for bloods etc, but mention it to your community midwife too x

I did - very happy with my decision - less stress, bit odd knowing exactly when they'll be here but amazing all the same. Very calm atmosphere in the delivery, would opt again

I did - I was seeing the consultant already so asked them as ultimately it’s them you need to see about it rather than midwife anyway. But it doesn’t hurt to push it with midwife too.

I did. Told my midwife that’s what I wanted and stood firm when she pushed back. She got me set up with a consultant at the hospital for my section. I’d said from the start that’s what I wanted

I asked for one. I said it to my midwife and she said she would write it on my notes to request consultant appointment ( if you’re already under cons then you can skip asking for appointment and just ask the cons at your appointment … they’re the ones that book / agree ( they don’t have a choice ) … so I would tell your midwife so she can add it to your notes and the cons will see this at your appointment / alternatively just say it to the consultant ) I simply said I just want one. The consultant asked why, I said it’s just what I want. No more questions asked .. they booked me in for section which happened 1 day before due date. It’s is literally law to give you a c section if you ask for one. It was honestly the best decision I made ( for me ) x

I did both times midwife just ticked the box

I did I brought it sup with the midwife then the midwife booked me in to speak with the consultant , consultant tried to talk me out of getting an elective but if you hold your ground and say you don’t want your birth in any other way and this is the only way you want to bring your child into the world they can’t refuse you. It was the best choice I ever made it was done so fast I felt like once they put me in the table i got to see my boys face right away and there is so much happening that when they are sticking you up time really does fly so fast I felt absolutely no Pailin during operation only a little bit some the next 3 days but was up and walking comfy in a week! I really thing that elective is a amazing choice my scar healed really fast with no issues and it’s a very neat line you absolutely should go though with it !

Thanks everyone! My sister ended up having a really long traumatic birth recently which ended up in an episiotomy AND emergency c section which has really made me question my choices even more! The anxiety of not knowing what will happen during a natural labour is driving me insane!
