Postpartum vagina..

Has anyone looked at themselves down there and the aftermath right after birth? I have not and I don’t want to.. I just felt it with my hands and I feel my stitches.. is it normal that my stitches feel like a balloon and form on the outside of my skin rather than inside.. I literally have it down my anus.. how was the healing process and how did it look for you after months?

I looked 5 days after birth, wasn’t as bad as I thought. Swelling had totally gone, could see my stitches (I had a cut and a second degree tear) I was just severely bruised! Your midwife should offer to look for you at day 1 and 5 appointments at home. Mine did. 2 weeks PP and I’m pretty much back to normal.

@Terri so your vagina looked about the same you would say, or you had extra changes of skin?

I was stitched funny so I actually have a small skin tag type of thing near the opening, I named him Nigel! Other than that I feel mine looks the same! If anything my flaps got smaller!🤣 also the balloon feeling is normal and I found it took a good while to relax, for me it was scar tissue with swelling mixed, a gentle perineal massage once healed completely, it will help loosen the scar tissue and get it feeling more normal! x

@Terri @Charlotte is have a fear of tearing just for the selfish fact i don’t want it to look different down there 😅 so your comments have chilled me out a bit, thank you !

I’ve been cut, stitched, torn and stitched, grazed and torn again. Thankfully it feels (mostly) and looks as normal for me as before. I say mostly because I’m 3wks pp with my third 🤣

@Charlotte aw name calling, that’s cute. Thanks for the tip, I’ll try a massage.

@Sharnee oh wow, what made you tear twice? Was the stitch not strong enough, I fear that

Definitely helped using humour during recovery, made my midwives laugh when they came to my home after birth!

Oh I’ve had 3 babies. My first I was cut, second I tore/had grazes and 3rd I also tore (only a teeny one)

@Hannah I was worried about this too so a very normal fear, not selfish in my eyes!

I looked and it didn’t look as bad as I thought it would. Now my episiotomy stitch hurt like a bitch, it also got infected :( make sure to take shiz bath as it helps.

@Sanjana Syeda how do you know signs of infection? Does it feel painful? I get stings here and there but that’s about it. ah you brave, I cannot and will not look down there, I can just feel it and it feels new 😭😭
