Milk supply decreasing

Anyone else having less milk? I pump and nurse, my baby is 7 months,EBF. I haven’t decreased eating and I don’t think I’m stressed (been stressed the last 2 days due to decreasing milk). I feel like he’s hungry, not getting enough. I power pumped last night. I don’t want this journey to end yet. He’s eating solids (purées) but once or twice a day max. I keep his plate small and he doesn’t even finish it really. Is this natural to just have decreased supply without a cause?

My baby is 6 1/2 months. My supply has also decreased and I eat and drink plenty of water. Also not ready for it to end. Really don’t want to move to formula :/

It could be your period! When you’re on it or getting ready to start it can cause a decrease in supply, I’ve even had it happen a few days after mine ended.

@Liz hopefully things get better for you. I tell myself it’s okay and that it’s been a blessing and a gift to have gone this far. I’m gonna continue to power pumped tonight and will keep on eating and drinking more. Also, fed is best and I really feel bad if my baby is not eating enough. He woke up so often last night and it felt like he didn’t get enough which breaks my heart.

@Briana thank you for this. My period is supposed to come any day now so I hope that’s the case. I just hope my baby can hang in there with me since I feel like he’s so hungry. I have a few bags in the fridge but it’s for like 3 days max!

Have you tried to eat things that help boost your supply? Like oatmeal? When I was pumping I would eat oatmeal or oatmeal cream pies and my supply would double! Sadly my journey on BF has ended but hopefully this advice helps!

I’ve nursed 4 (currently still nursing #4) and this is normal to feel like you’re starting to produce less. They go through growth spurts causing them to nurse more, the more they’re learning and growing the less they sleep and the more they nurse. Make sure you’re getting lots of water (and electrolytes) and protein and healthy fats. Just keep nursing on demand ☺️

My pediatrician has me giving my baby baby food and then nursing after. He’s almost 7 months and eats 8 ounces of baby food and then nurses til he’s full.

Thank you all for sharing your advice. I’m gonna keep going in and continue to pump and nurse my baby 😊

@Jasmine I’m making oat snack balls this evening (with chocolate chips, peanut butter, and honey). I tried a couple of times previously, I saw little difference. I’ve also been drinking coconut water and body armor. I’m not hopeful but it’s worth a try!

Start taking fenugreek capsules and milkmaid tea! And offering more feeds to baby during the day, offer 8-10 on the boob! Should work within a week or two 💕 Also pumping right after you feed will signal to your body to produce more. Good luck!

Fenugreek can have the opposite effect and dry up some women! I would avoid!

My paediatrician recommended it! Worked like magic for me! From ChatGPT: Fenugreek is one of the most commonly used herbal galactagogues (substances that promote milk production). Some mothers find that it helps increase their milk supply, but research on its effectiveness is mixed. Potential Benefits: • May help increase milk production within 24–72 hours for some women. • Contains phytoestrogens that could support lactation. • Often taken in capsule, tea, or tincture form. Possible Side Effects: • Can cause digestive upset (gas, bloating, diarrhea) for mom or baby. • May lower blood sugar levels, which can be problematic for those with diabetes. • Some report a maple syrup-like smell in sweat or urine. Other Considerations: • If low supply is an issue, addressing latch, frequent nursing, and adequate hydration are key.

It’s natural! I’m in the same boat. Mothers Milk tea is helping I think though!

@Gael that’s great that it works for you! And it does for a lot of women, but there’s no way of knowing what way it will affect you so it’s better to steer clear of it. Also, pediatricians are not trained in lactation. OP, I was looking for the name of the supplements I took and it’s this one! This link is why they don’t use fenugreek, but their supplements are amazing! https://www.legendairymilk.com/pages/fenugreek-free?tw_source=google&tw_adid=&tw_campaign=21891341988&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAACrQnCmHYTVqn6fULvKEL1kjLfPAs&gclid=Cj0KCQjwm7q-BhDRARIsACD6-fVc66ci7qHYNk67MPYFpNrGmkPfylSA210E3mRn544pdzDywoXHLF0aAhEyEALw_wcB
