Please someone tell me why when my baby wakes up, he rolls on his front and cries?!

We’re trying to get him used to sleeping in his crib again after he’s been poorly he’s been in with us a lot. My baby hates being on his tummy and will just cry and roll back on his back. The past 2 nights he’s been waking up, rolling on his belly and screaming , we then go to put him on his back and he does the same thing? We’ve been trying very gentle sleep training (chair method) but this is impossible to do when he keeps rolling on his belly and doesn’t want to be there?! If he’s in bed with us he’ll be on his back or side so I know he doesn’t want to sleep on his belly Is this some sort of thing to get our attention or he’s practicing?! So confused, help 😩🤣

oh, my baby girl is doing the same. Once she wakes up she will flip to her front and cries.

My LG does this during her naps in cotbed (transitioning from crib) and struggles to sleep with the rolling to tummy and hating it and crying. I wondered if the mattress was too firm and bought a soft mattress topper which was a huge game changer. She stopped rolling too much and settles much better. Confirms it when she did a poonami so had to make do without it while it’s in the wash and struggled again. Maybe try that?

@Clare ohhh interesting!! Thank you!!
