Potty training with autism

hello! I have a 6 year old son who is on the spectrum & we are struggling with potty training. He won’t use the toilet and wears a diaper at all times . He refuses to use underwear instead of diapers . Any advice ? How did you potty train your child with autism ? Thanks ☺️

Following as I need help too!

What level of he? Is he verbal?

I know it’s difficult but with the nappies it’s absorbing all the urine so it’s keeping him comfortable. With my oldest we went through a stage of putting him in underwear and letting him feel uncomfortable (not for very long) but getting him use to the feeling and registering oh I don’t like that. it was a long road we still have to remind him at times to go otherwise he will have an accident and he still uses a nappy at night (that’s a whole other ball game) we also did things like bringing bubbles and toys for him to play with whilst on the toilet. We also one of them seats with the steps up because he didn’t like the feeling of his feet just dangling. We tried to make everytime he went to the toilet a fun and positive experience and gave him a reward every time he sat on the toilet then moved it to everytime he did a wee etc Hopefully this helps! I know it’s frustrating but you’re doing a great job
