Crib to bed transition

When do we do this? Is it at a certain age or certain developmental milestones? I know my daughter isn't ready yet, but I'm trying to get ahead of this so I know when/what to look out for.

I did it whenever they started climbing out of their cribs for safety reasons

@Lyss when was that for your child(ren)?

Moved from bedside bassinet to floor bed at 4 weeks

It was 3+ I had to go look at pics it’s been awhile lol but keep in mind me and my kids are autistic so we kinda just do things on our own time so developmentally at the time i didn’t know what was appropriate or not I just did what my mom said was normal lol

Moved from a pack n play to a toddler bed between 5-7 months. Then a twin at 1 year old.

I want to do it now that my 2yo can climb out of her crib now but the babies’ room is also my office and I have too much for them to get into in there!

My elder son transitioned at 19 months. He was starting to climb and I was newly pregnant and could hardly lift him over the railing. I got a horrible back injury from it at one point and spent almost a week being unable to walk.

When they want. I pushed my older one at 2.5 bc baby #2 was coming and it was hard on him. I wouldn’t rush it if there’s no pressing need-safety concerns and such

I co-slept until a year and were just now transitioning into a twin floor bed with rails she can’t climb out of (we have the door against the wall)

If they can climb out the cot it's time to move on. We moved our daughter to a floor bed at 2

My kid went the opposite way- he wanted to put himself to bed. I would do our night routine and he would then get up and go lay on the floor and go to sleep. How would fuss if you tried to pick him up. Problem solved itself when he transitioned to a toddler bed that he could just get in himself. That was 14/15 months. A friend of mine kept hers in crib until 3 because babe was content when she woke up to just sit and play there until mom got her. So it really is kid dependent. As others said-climbing out is usually the indicator.

We took the sides off of our little boy's cotbed when he was 15 months as he wasn't sleeping. He started sleeping through again when we did that. We've just bought him a toddler bed & he is 3 next month.

I made the switch when he was just getting too big, so he was in the crib until 3yo, I took the front side off maybe 6 months before that when we were potty training. I don’t think it’s bad to do it earlier, we just didn’t need to, he still had more room in the crib than I do in bed with my husband lol

10 months and I’m glad we did. Every baby is different and our baby just hated the crib with passion so a twin floor bed was the move and she’s loves it. We just baby proofed the room!

My daughter is 2 years old + 4 months and still in a crib. I honestly don’t feel a need to transition to a bed yet, maybe in a few more months. She doesn’t try to climb out, she’s safest in the crib.

At 2.5 so she could get used to the change before her baby sister arrived 5 months later. Also she wanted to go in her crib a lot and I was tired of putting her in and out of it over and over again lol

At 14 months my daughter started hurting herself in the crib. Her legs would get wedged between the bars to the point I had to help and she would get bruises around her knees and it hurt her bad. My pediatrician told me it was time to do a toddler bed to prevent further injury. So I did.
