It definitely can. I think they say it can last up to 3 years actually.
So the baby blues only last a few weeks. I had that- I couldn’t stop crying but for no reason at all. Baby blues are just a completely different thing. PPD is a few years and after that it’s just depression.
This woman needs to think before she speaks, even if she does truly believe that it’s totally ignorant to try and invalidate someone’s struggle. I would have cut the conversation with her, sounds like someone head strong with zero empathy. Glad your husband stood up for you, it totally can last years! Every woman is different
Baby blues last a few weeks, PPD or PPA can last years.
Sounds like she just isn’t informed about updated mental health and the postpartum time. Why were they even talking about it to begin with?
My dr said it can take up to two years for your body and hormones to regulate. Baby blues and post partum are not the same thing.
18m pp & I’m still dealing with PPD, PPA, & PPR
Lasted over a year for me 🙋🏼♀️
I am a maternal therapist. PPD in my experience usually isn't hormonal like people say. It's an adjustment issue. It's lack of sleep, lack of breaks, lack of food, lack of identity, etc. So, yes. PPD can morph into regular depression if nothing changes.
She’s probably talking about baby blues - that lasts a couple weeks due to hormones and anything you are struggling w that will exacerbate it (like baby not latching, or has colic etc) PPD can hit any time and can go for any length, it’s just depression, but post partum and with hormones. Depression itself can go for months or years, so why not PPD
I’ve heard it can last up to 3 years. I believe it. My second recently turned 3 & I finally see a light at the end of the tunnel
I had PPD with my first for close to 2 years and pp rage with my 2nd for a year and a half, it can take 3 years or more for some women's hormones to regulate again after having a baby.
PPD can appear anywhere within the first year and last years. Hormones can really screw you over x
Didn't like Jeffrey Dahmer's mom have PPD up until his teens? I know that's a little weird to bring up but like. Example it can happen for sure (I could totally be wrong I just remember from Netflix which is Netflix and not facts)
I am over one year postpartum and still have PPD. I think that just because you didn't go through something yourself doesn't mean it's not real.
