Don't know whether pumping is safe, but I used to hand express colostrum to syringes daily, 3 times a day, from week 36 and store them in the freezer. They saved me in the first hours at the hospital and when went back home, as I started having milk a couple of days after, and also, baby couldn't latch at the beginning.
I had a midwife appointment yesterday and she recommended hand expressing from 36 weeks so it doesn't kick start labour too soon. However I did ask this question cause it was on my mind too and she said due to hormones when actually breastfeeding, your body knows the difference between when you're actually feeding a child or just stimulation if that makes sense🥰
