Potty training

My boy has known what the toilet/potty is, when he’s pooing, and when he’s peeing for months now, absolutely screams the place down when I do his nappy, will sit on the potty clothed, watches me on the toilet alllllll the time lol (single mum so he is literally my toilet buddy as he follows me everywhere 😂). But he will not sit on the potty without a nappy on. It’s like as soon as the nappies off he gets scared. I get it, it’s freaky. But he knows what it’s for. He will literally sometimes say poo, say he wants to try on the potty then when he go he’s like lol no. Even if I try and sit him on there myself he goes stiff as a board, screeches. It makes no sense in my brain 😂 we have a potty downstairs and one upstairs and there’s also an insert for the main toilet if he fancied that. Are there any tips from people who have started potty training? (Also I know it’s still really early but he has so many signs of ig lol) x

Following as ours is very similar asks for potty but doesn’t want to sit on without nappy I presumed this meant she wasn’t ready but interested to hear other thoughts

Literally sounds word for word as my little boy 😅 Following 😊

Have you tried a toilet set that goes directly on the toilet instead of a potty? Sometimes kids prefer this and get over that fear then are able to go on to use the potty later. Otherwise I’d just suggest having it around a lot and giving ample opportunity for him to sit on it

We’re reading ‘oh crap potty training’ atm, in preparation 👌🏻

My little boy is a little similar although he will sit on it unclothed no nappy but won’t use it. He tells us when he needs a wee or poo and we get him on there no nappy and he won’t go he just then runs and wees on the floor.. we are hoping with time he will learn to use it it’s been a few weeks now though and no luck

We haven’t tried yet but the book we’re reading recommends trying them with pants / over the nappy. Getting them to practise pulling them up and down
