my 2.5 year old had a phobia as well. we started introducing it slowly when she was around 1.5 years old, but she started regressing so we stopped trying. we became persistent with it shortly after she turned 2. it took some time but eventually she gained the confidence to pee in it, getting her to poop was the hardest it took awhile but i can say that she is 80% potty trained as of today. what helped us; def take her to the bathroom with you every chance you get, and also tell her what you’re doing like “look, mommy is peeing/pooping in the potty” — interact with her so that she can have that reassurance that it is safe and okay… in hopes that it will help her gain the courage. also, are you using the ‘big girl’ toilet to train her or a potty? we have the potty that looks like and mimics a toilet and it has helped a ton. we have another version of a potty also but the one that looks like the toilet is the one she ended up preferring and what she uses on a daily. hope this helps x
more importantly, i’ve learned that forcing it or overreacting only makes it worse on them feel free to message me if you have any questions or need more advice 🤍 i was in your situation so i can relate to this on so many levels
We’re in exactly the same boat. She’s 4 in June and just won’t do it. I’m completely at a loss and am just rolling with it and not giving in by giving her a nappy. But wow am I sick of cleaning up accidents
Thank you everyone! We have a potty and also one of those seats with steps that you put on the big toilet to help them climb up. I agree forcing it seems to backfire but we backed off for so long and now she’s almost 4 so I feel like we should do something! But maybe not maybe she’ll just do it in her own time. I plan to bring it up again with the pedi at her 4 year visit as well but last time he was just kind of like meh every kid figures it out eventually 🤷🏻♀️
Water color tablets. Make it fun, I have boys so I let them pee outside. Take her pee with you every time.
