I’m also going to start in the summer as then they can just go outside without a nappy x
My daughter is the same age, I bought a potty for her when she was 1 and we started to encourage her to use it after she woke up in the morning, before nap, after nap and before bed. It wasn’t forced, it got her used to it and we got a couple of books based on using the potty. We fully potty trained her maybe a month ago where we took 2-3 days at home wearing undies or being naked and every 20-30 minutes encouraged her to sit on the potty. When she did wee herself we didn’t get mad just said “oh no, it’s ok accidents happen. Next time let’s try do a wee wee on the potty. We also explained the difference between knickers and nappies. Nappies hold wees knickers don’t kind of thing.. we don’t want wet knickers etc. she grasped it quite quickly. She uses the toilet every 1.5-2 hrs. She no longer wear nappies during the day. Just takes a bit of patience. I don’t know how it works for a boy 😅 I’ve got a 5 month old boy now and can tell it will be very different haha
We started in October half term, mainly because I’m due this month and wanted my LB trained before this one comes. We stayed home for 3 days and he was around the house with no nappy/trousers on and I put him on the potty every 10/15 minutes. We had multiple accidents, he tried to blame the dog, but he was pretty much trained by the time he turned 2. He still has a nappy on for nap times and bed time, but more often than not his nappy for nap time is dry. We encourage him to use the potty before we go out, get in the car etc, otherwise he will have a bush wee. But he’s holding his habits now and always tells us. I can’t remember the last time he had an accident. When he went on the potty, we gave him a chocolate button as a reward and he was soon rushing to the potty for some chocolate 🙄 that soon changed to stickers! We never told him off for an accident, no matter how frustrated we may have been x
My daughter is fully potty trained and has been since October. I left her naked all day whilst at home with access to a potty and made sure to praise her each time she used it
We put on the potty every evening after tea with an activity or a snack for the practise and celebrate the times he has done a wee so he has a positive association of the potty and weeing in it. We also celebrate him telling us when he's done a wee/poo in his nappy as he was notoriously bad for downgrading poos by saying "just a fart" as he wouldn't be stopped playing for a bum change in that scenario 😂 and also was bad for blaming the dog and all other family members so wanted him to be open about telling us. Will ramp this up more when he is getting the hang of these first steps as am due in June and would be nice to only have 1 lot of nappies to deal with. 😂
I’m hoping to give it a go next week. I’m going to stay at home and have her naked.
My little girl will pull her nappy down and sit on the potty happily, but won't actually do anything in it. We aren't forcing it but I'm due another baby in May so ideally during the summer months I would like to get her potty trained so I'm not buying 2 lots of nappies 🫠
We potty trained in November used no crap method! You will probably going to need a few days off as there are going to be a lot of accidents. I wouldn’t recommend putting your LO on potty every so on because eventually he will start refusing to go on the potty. Your boy needs to learn his body language and know himself when he needs to go. We made a mistake and used to put my daughter on the potty every half an hour and then we had to go back to the basics because she just started refusing to go. So then we started no crap method. She always tells us when she needs to potty and she pulls her pants down. First day will be a lot of accidents. My daughter peed every few minutes 🤦♀️ and i kept mopping and cleaning by the time i cleaned she peed somewhere else eventually she started slipping because the floors were wet so best thing you can do buy some puppy pads and clean their pee with it. It will absorb it so quick and there will be minimum smell then just mop floors when he goes to sleep.
I’m going to be attempting in the summer holidays so around July time. With my eldest we just went no nappy and stayed in the garden
