So I have a doctors appt tomorrow and I’m thinking about asking for a depression/anxiety medication. I was prescribed one before when I lost my first child but I never took it because I was scared about how it would make me feel. Any moms take medication ? Any tips or advice ? Does/did it help ?

I took sertaline (zoloft) for yesrs and all through pregnancy and majority breastfeeding. Im now on duloxatine and since I'm done breastfeeding searching for more options. I have found it helpful once I found my proper dosage and meds. Be aware, once you start it will take a few weeks to work. Also, it may take a few different tries to find the right meds/dosage. All of that is normal. Be open and honest with your doctor. If you're having a side effect your not okay with (i.e. loss of libido, inability to finish etc) tell the doctor. There are all sorts of options out there. Good luck! Feel free to reach out if you need someone to talk to. It's rough. But you got this

Like the above, ive Been taking Sertraline (Zoloft) for years too! Through both my pregnancies and nursing! I love my sertraline! I tried a few different ones before staying on sertraline! So don’t be afraid to try again if the first (or 5th) isn’t right for you. We also worked a lot with the dosage! I take a pretty high dose now but it started much lower! I haven’t had any side effects from it. I also recently started taking welbrutrin for postpartum depression. I definitely think it has helped. It does make it hard for me to sleep sometimes but I take it at night even though I was told it was best not to. I just can’t remember it in the morning

Tried sertraline, didn’t like it. Now on escitalopram (Lexapro) it works great. Did have trouble with reaching organism for weeks and now not anymore, and lowered libido but that improved as well. First week- week and a half can be so rough with symptoms like nausea for instance and other strange things. But for the nausea, hang in there. It will get better unless it doesn’t you can try something else.

Hey ladies, thanks for the messages. I went to my appointment and was prescribed fluoxetine. Any experience with that medication ? @Jazmon @Haley @Kalyn

@Lysha I don't have experiences with this specific one. I took Zoloft once for 3 months, and suddenly stopped (don't recommend cold-turkey: sight was flickering and it felt like sand in my brain "wheels" for a week+). I would say make sure to communicate your concerns to your doctor, make sure you have therapy as medication should only be supportive. I would look into Gabor Mate on YouTube or get some of his books, as he has pretty good insight on depression. The live seminar recordings were helpful to me. Additionally, I would try and make time for something you love: craft, ready, journal, scrapbook, walk, sing.. ❤️ and of course keep connected with friends and have at least one ally who knows of your feelings.
