Post natal depression/ mental health

I finally came out and told everyone how much I’m struggling with mental health and what I think is post natal depression (had 2 babies back to back) youngest is 9 months but issues have been there since my first who is 21 months. Health visitor and doctor have been lovely and both supportive and helpful to both suggest a referral to the perinatal mental health team……. Got a phone call today to say it’s not a suitable referral. Which has left me a bit clueless….. this was the HW who told me and said herself she’s not sure where to go now so needs to speak to the doctor on Monday. Not sure on the point of the post but I feel so alone for even speaking up now.

Did they not have to give you an assessment before rejecting your referral? This was a few years ago now but my HV referred me after my first baby and I had to have a video call assessment with the perinatal team. They also decided I didn’t need any further support so I don’t have much advice from there, but it seems a bit odd for them to just outright reject your referral. Have a look at this website, there’s free support here: https://pandasfoundation.org.uk/

@Lauren nothing no, just emailed my HV back and said not the right referral. HV doesn’t understand either so said to speak to my GP as I do need support somewhere Thank you! I will do x

That sounds very strange. I hope your GP can sort something for you x

Hi. I hope you're doing okay. You can self refer for talking therapies via the NHS website. https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/mental-health-services/find-nhs-talking-therapies-for-anxiety-and-depression/enter-gp The perinatal team only takes severe cases from what I understand. Hope that helps!
