Newborns should feed every 2hours. You can wake them up for a feed. Otherwise they will loose weight and either send you back to the hospital for monitoring or the midwives will suggest you start giving formula and you may not like it if you planned to breastfeed.
@Amanda thanks Amanda xxx
My 2 week old boy does the same. My pediatrician told me the longest he can go between feeds is 5 hours so I stick with that and he hasn’t lost weight and is behaving normally! But definitely ask your own ped since every baby is different
Hi ! I have a 3 week old! I realized this was happening and startd pumping and bottle feeding she seems to stay awake until shes done eating because breastfeeding was putting her to sleep after 5 mins but i was also told to undress baby every feed but i definitely didnt want to to do that in the middle of night
Are they gaining weight? I never woke my LB to feed and only ever fed on demand. He’s 2 and has followed the same growth line since being born x
How old is your little one? Are they back up to birth weight yet? If not, definitely try and wake him (I know it’s so hard to! I usually find changing their nappy works best). Otherwise just keep feeding on demand. You will get to a point where he is feeding from you constantly x
Depends how much weight LO is gaining. Mine both went through periods of sleeping longer at night (unfortunately short lived) but it never affected their weight gain so I never woke them to feed. If LO's weight gain is slow or if there are any other concerns like dehydration or anything then I'd wake after 2-3 hrs
Thank you so much everyone@Katrina @Katie @Chantelle @KayLee he is only like 2 days olds and hasn’t been weighed yet, I think the midwife will weigh him on her next visit. @Noelle I have found that changing his nappy before a feed or getting him undressed does help but he will just fall asleep on my boob anyway after 4 mins.
@Cece I woke mine up every 3 hours the first 4-5 days and then just gave into the 4/5 hour sleep stretches and the only difference is my engorgement lol
You should wake your baby up at night they sometimes don’t understand hunger cues especially if they’re using a pacifier to sleep also for the sake of your milk supply
I don’t know if this is the right thing but I’ve always just fed on demand and never woken either of my children for a feed. Both put weight on well and there was no concerns
Jaundiced? You'll need to wake 3 hourly during the day and up to 4 hourly in the night to help flush babies system. But also, should be waking until baby reaches birth weight. You might be able to get away with dream feeds too.
Was always told to wake every 3 hours
Mine was the same i used to have to wake her up every 2 hours

As long as he is gaining wait then it’s totally fine x
I have only breastfed my current one as I didn’t produce enough with my first two but in the hospital they were encouraging me to wake every 3 hours for feeding but once we came home my pediatrician said she should be sleeping for that long during the night if she’s on a good schedule. But every child is different. I say call your pediatrician on Monday and see what they say and if they can’t give you any advice over the phone the nurses at my pediatric office can and I will give you the number if you need it!
