breastmilk in straw cup

this is probably a silly question but is it okay to give my almost 7 month old breastmilk in a straw cup when we’re out so she can drink it herself? starting to feel a bit lonely when i have to leave the table to breastfeed and sick of being the last one to eat when bottle feeding 😔

I personally waited to give anything but a bottle until after she turned 1 because it's gotta be sterilized.

@Sheri could i not just sterilise the straw cup?

Why do you have to leave the table to feed her? It doesn't have to be sterilised, just like plates and cutlery don't have to be. You don't have the same worries about bacteria that come with formula milk, as bottles and cups used for formula have to be sterilised

I think it would be ok but why do you have to leave the table to breastfeed?!

Also, when bottle feeding could someone else take it in turns so that it’s not always you that’s last to eat?

@Rebecca it makes everyone uncomfortable because there’s other kids in the family and they don’t want them to see. and unfortunately nobody says yes when i ask someone to take over 😔

Incog I’m so sorry to hear you’re in such an unsupportive environment! Breastfeeding is completely normal and natural and there’s no reason why kids shouldn’t see it. In fact it actually helps when kids see it as it rightly normalises it and helps ensure the next generation don’t have misinformed ideas about it. I’m also really sorry no one is helping with the bottle either. Does that include the baby’s dad?

Honestly I'd tell them to shove off, boobs are for feeding babies. If kids see they might ask an awkward question once, then it will be normal to them.
