Breast fed vs formula fed

Hey guys , I’m 25 weeks now with twin girls . And I have a 19 month old too . With my 19 month old my supply started to drop a lot near 5 months and then we put her on formula due to having to do ivf meds trying for the twins . Curious though , how many of you had enough milk supply to breast feed both your twins ?

I’m one week pp with my twin boys who I had at 37+3 I’m doing a combination of breast feeding and formula since my milk supply isn’t full in but I breastfed and give them 2oz of formula per their pediatrician

I tried very hard to breastfeed my twins but sadly wasn’t able to. They were born at 36+2 and so tripple fed (breastfeed, bottle, and pump) for almost 4 months trying to teach them how to latch well but failed. I then tried to exclusively pump and simply couldn’t produce enough for 2 despite regular power pumping, staying hydrated, and eating well. We supplemented with formula but then switched to almost entirely formula as juggling pumping, twins, and my toddler (he was 18 months when the twins were born) as just too much for me. I know some moms are able to produce enough but it’s not super common, the majority need to supplement.

I tried for about a month to pump & BF but Had to supplement with formula bc i didn't make enough. After about 6 weeks I gave up and went full formula. Broke my heart to have to quit...took me a few months of feeling like a failure but my babies are now 6 months and thriving on formula and now solids.

Breastfed both my twins for 6 months , I did some expressing too! My girls fed on one side each ( they each had their preffered side) I used to breastfeed one baby in the day and bottle feed the other with expressed milk and then switch it at night , this is what kept my supply but also kept my sanity ! I had enough supply for both u till around the 5 month mark and then started to struggle to keep up with growth spurts, teething and by 6 months I couldn't keep up xxx

Breastfed both of mine for 14months, it's hard but possible.

I breastfed my oldest until she was 12 months old, that's wlaround the time when my supply dipped as I was around 4ish months pregs with the twins at the time. I managed to harvest colostrum at 36 weeks which I hadn't been able to with my singleton. And went on to breastfeed both twins exclusively until 6 months. At that point I left the twins with my bro and SIL for a day and my twin A never went back to boob after a bottle, whereas the other adamantly hated the bottle and boobfed until she was 13 months old. Never had a supply issue at all xxx

I'm almost 10 months into breastfeeding mine. In the beginning as their latches were poor and they had tongue tie so we topped up with pumped milk or formula but from about 3-4 months have been exclusively breastfeeding them and don't have any issues. Once your supply is established (which needs some extra effort with early babies) I believe that's enough volume as they'll ever need and the milk changes composition as they grow so it meets their needs. If you're in the UK check out the breastfeeding twins, triplets charity Facebook group. They run regular free webinars about how to go about it all and the group admins are so helpful with any questions you have before and during your feeding journey, even if it's a combi feeding one xx

Breastfeeding my twins still at 11 months. They were born at 36+2. They don’t love bottle but I send 8 onces to daycare only, they drink from straw cup.

Breastfeeding still at 15 months. Why wouldn’t you have enough supply? If you put babies to breast regularly for 6-8 weeks you’ll establish perfect supply for them. I’d avoid any formula as it’ll mess up your supply, read about top up trap. I would also seek professional help rather than advices on forums as statistically only 2-5% of women have supply issue for medical reasons. Join breastfeeding twins UK group on FB you’ll see plenty of breastfeeding twin and triplet mums and amazing advice. Good luck! x
