Those who have stopped breastfeeding, how did you do it? Did you wait for baby to lose interest or did you actively drop feeds?

I have such a love hate relationship with breastfeeding, ready to stop I think but don’t want baby to feel rejected by me. It’s so hard! I can also feel the pressure from other people to stop. He won’t take milk from a cup, I haven’t tried pumping in ages cos he’s just never been interested, he’s all about the boob.

I haven’t stopped yet, but understand the external comments and negativity you’re getting! We’ve had lots of comments from family, but I’m not ready to stop. You don’t need to give him milk in a bottle or cup now if he’s having two portions of dairy/sources of calcium elsewhere in his diet. I do know people recommend the cold turkey approach, or dropping a feed at a time which may suit you better by the sound of it! The breastfeeding and lactation support group on Facebook can direct you to lots of guidance and advice x

I also felt like I was ready to stop, and had been on the receiving end of a few comments!! But someone recommended the “makes milk” podcasts by Emma Pickett and it really made me reevaluate. (Not here to convince you either way but you might find the podcast helpful - it also has lots of suggestions on how to wean) ❤️

My son also won't take milk from a cup so I still do 2 feeds a day (1 before bed and 1 at 4am when he wakes around that time as i find otherwise he wakes for the day too early) . He isn't actually very interested anymore in the boob and I could probably stop altogether but I'm carrying on since it's such a struggle to get him to drink any milk from a cup. I will probably stop in a couple of months when they don't really HAVE to have milk anymore and just focus on making sure he gets enough calcium Rich foods during the day instead!
