Remember too that you will ovulate before you have your first period so... you could get pregnant without ever knowing you ovulated. I wouldn't rely on breastfeeding as bc.
My periods went back to normal about 3 months after stopping breastfeeding completely. We started trying for #2 when my son turned one and got pregnant straight away and I was 42 years old. The problem is, you will ovulate before you get a period so you could be fertile at any time now and not know it.
My doctor says if you’re not constantly and consistently breastfeeding then it’s not reliable enough to not get pregnant (as we were talking contraception options at the time)
Breastfeeding as contraception only works up until the first 6 months, and only if you are exclusively breastfeeding, on a fairly rigid schedule - not even pumping. If so much as a single feeding is missed, it's compromised. So while it CAN be a form of contraception, you have to follow very rigid parameters and at 9 months it's well past expired, anyway.
Thank you everyone!
I'm pretty sure that we can still ovulate even without having our periods back. I'm also 10 mo pp, c section, and breastfeeding, and also do not have my period back lol. (how lucky are we btw 😂) but breastfeeding is not reliable "birth control" so I'd wager your chances of getting pregnant are about the same as when you have regular periods. you could try tracking your ovulation in other ways maybe, like basal body temps, CM checks, etc. and go from there!
