If you are able to, get in touch with your local infant feeding team for some breastfeeding support. They will be able to check your latch, look for potential tongue ties and give you some practical in person advice. If you have a fast let down leaning back can help, or even hand express to release your let down before trying to latch baby. Babies tend to be sleepier after formula as it takes longer for their body to process it. Well done for keeping going, breastfeeding can be really hard at times
I think nipple shields are worth a try. My baby didn’t like when my milk lets down and it would spray in her mouth. It happened everytime about 3 minutes into nursing. But the nipple shields not only helped with my flat nipples, but they made the milk come out more evenly
