Needing some direction

Hey yall, a mom had recommended this app for me to download as I’m trying to reach mommas in need of milk. I am an over producer, my baby girl is 4 weeks tomorrow, she can’t keep up, I am officially out of room in both my freezers and don’t want it to go to waste. What did yall do? I’d like to donate or sell it if I can because bags are so expensive.. any and all help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

You can also use it for baths or making lotion! It’s great for baby weaning recipes too to mix into purées or mash potato or anything you’d normally use cows milk for, although you’ve got a little while to wait for that yet 😅

At about 12 weeks your supply will regulate meaning you won't be an over supply anymore. If you don't find a milk bank in your area I'd work on only removing milk as needed which will be a little painful at first but it'll tell your body you don't need that much milk.

@Amanda when you say removing milk as needed can you elaborate on that? I’m a FTM mom so I have absolutely no idea what that means lol..

@Lauryne yes! I’ve heard lots about that kind of stuff! The food thing I have awhile for, I’ve given a few bags to family so they could make lotion. I just don’t know what to do with everything else.

Only remove enough for comfort. Rather than empty every time. So, for example: if baby only eats a tiny amount and your boobs are still full, then express just enough. I've heard don't empty them completely. You risk mastitis or keeping up with the oversupply long term.

Oh mastitis is if the milk stays in for too long. If you're not struggling with keeping up with oversupply or forceful let down or baby not getting hindmilk then I guess you're good to donate

I also second what Amanda says. Just to add, breastmilk is all supply and demand, so if you’re feeding a baby and pumping you’re essentially telling your body you have twins! If your goal is to keep pumping that’s fine, but if not you’ll need to slow down as much as is comfortably possible, to indicate to your body that you don’t need to be making so much! Only pump just enough so that you’re comfortable, or better still just latch baby if you’re feeling engorged, your baby’s saliva will communicate with your body to help it understand that baby is full and doesn’t need you to make any more milk than is necessary, hope that makes sense!

Where are you located? I know there are some Facebook mom groups in my area for the purpose of donating/selling

@Sandie I am located in hermiston Oregon

There are Facebook groups (I think by state) human milk for human babies (at least that’s what it’s called in CA). I’ve donated a lot through that group and some moms have given replacement bags as a thank you (which is totally reasonable to ask for).
