Cold turkey

Have any mamas gone cold turkey when it comes to weaning from BF?. My little girl is 14 months old and currently only nurses to sleep at bedtime and then throughout the night if she wakes up. (Still about 4/5 times a night). A day or 2 ago my little girl bit me while nursing and broke the skin and now the pain when she nurses is literally unbearable. I don’t know why but it hurts so so much. I’ve never experienced pain like it. I’m sat writing this in tears because I’ve just nursed her back to sleep. Giving birth to her was honestly less painful..😥 I honestly don’t feel like I can BF her again. What can I do?? Please help!! PS I can’t switch boobs, my milk dried up a long long time ago in my other boob! 🤣 Oh and she wont drink from a bottle so cant express and give it to her.

This doesn’t really help, but my LO just decided to stop on his own 3 days before his 1st birthday, but he was a biter and a few weeks before he stopped, he would bite me every time I offered, looking back, he obviously decided enough was enough and just didn’t want any more. I was terrified about going cold turkey, so literally called the health visitors about 4 times that first week, but they reassured that because he was one, he wouldn’t need anything to substitute for the milk other than to make sure that he got calcium in the day (they said a small yogurt a day would do) and to offer the boob if I felt like he wanted it, out of being worried, I tried to give it to him often that week and he wasn’t having any of it. He just got annoyed at me and bit me again 😂🥲 The other thing I would say is that we found it hard because his comfort was bf so he’d still wake frequently in the night seeking comfort, there were a lot of very long nights, but the comfort did transfer.

So all in all, at 18 months old, he’s never had breastmilk since 3 days before his 1st birthday, going cold turkey is possible. Sorry that the context was a bit off with this one 😂xx

If you want to stop, try putting band aids on your nipples and show her there is a boo boo. Bottle only for now

You can absolutely decide not to nurse her again! You may want to pump or hand express a little bit once a day though just to keep from getting a clogged duct or mastitis as you drop your supply.

This happened to me and my baby boy too

I also only fed from one boob and have one available that has a big deep wound that got infected but then I had antibiotics My son is two years three months Neither of us are ready to stop yet

It's going to mess with your hormones if you just stop

Best thing is to get nipple shield and put on whilst it heals Where is the wound? You can also put coconut oil and vase line onto the cut and around the nipple aeriola etc They used to say air dry but this just makes a scan which baby sucks off. Best to heal from inside out with keeping it moist. Try feeding just three times day morning lunch and night, morning till healed. That's what we are doing However my boy wouldn't use nipple shield in usual manner so I have to hold it over my wound so he can still feel and suck the nipple. It's been a nightmare week for sleep and pain, honestly twenty out of ten I know!

I've messaged you :)
