Expressing breast milk

Any tips for expressing breast milk and bottle feeding alongside breast feeding? My baby is 1 week old, is it the right time to introduce a bottle or is it going to affect the breast feeding/latching? Also what is the best way to store/cary expressed milk when you’re going out for the day and want it to last?

I recommend a Haakaa as well as an electric breast pump. The Haakaa is great for wearing while baby is eating on the other side and you can build a nice stash without adding in extra pumping sessions. My lactation consultant recommended waiting until 6 weeks to start introducing bottles to avoid any issues. Also, my husband did a lot of the burping during feedings initially and I really think that helped baby associate him with feeding time and she had no trouble taking a bottle from him when we started giving them to her occasionally. We usually take an insulated bag/cooler with a pre-portioned bottle and a thermos of hot water separately. When it’s almost time to feed we drop the sealed bottle into thermos for a few minutes to warm it up.

Lactation consultants will always tell you to wait 6 weeks. However my baby was not latching properly and had jaundice so I had to introduce the bottle right away. Today I continue to pump and breastfeed and he takes both no problem. It really is up to you & up to your baby to see. Some babies prefer bottles because it’s easier for them, my baby still loves to breastfeed just as much.

If you've got a good latch I'd wait like said to go till 6 weeks. If stored in a cool box with ice packs milk is good for 24 hours. I have a rucksack with a cool bag section and I put two icepack on there with two bottles and they stay fridge cold all day.

I introduced a bottle within the first week and baby took to it very well and still does at 19 weeks. We use a small coolbag and ice packs for transportation :)
