Newborn care

I know it can vary depending on cultural traditions, but I'm curious to know - do you like having someone look after your newborn in the first few weeks (eg. your mother, MIL, aunt etc) or would you rather just be supported to look after your baby yourself? I would rather have someone just cook, clean and hold the baby while I'm in the shower/having a nap/eating but do the majority of the care myself.

I wouldn't even want someone to cook, clean, watch the baby while showering or napping.

I don't know anyone who wants to immediately give their baby to someone else. All new parents tend to want to do is spend time with their baby.

I wouldn’t even want to see and be around other family. 😂 just my husband, me and the baby

@Astley I should have put this as an option too. I'd only want support for some of the time, definitely not a family member living with me which I know is the norm for some people

Yes, most new mommas, wanna just spend time with their partner and the baby or just the mothers’ parents to help for the first few weeks. But in my case my family lives in a different country so I only want my husband and not my in laws to be with me after giving birth.

I didn’t mind people popping in to visit and meet baby but I wouldn’t want anyone hanging around and definitely not taking baby.

If I was to have another one I would definitely want someone else in the family around to help with all the cooking and cleaning so I can take care of the baby and my toddler. I refused help the first time round and I don’t know why 😂 x

My husband took the night shift after our daughter was born(c section)and he cooked and cleaned and everything while I recovered I’d rather people support me from a distance yk like call or text but not come over😭
