Childcare

Do it! I'm a mostly-sahm, I work in nursing every now and then do childcare in my home for local parents. I charge $15/hr because it's not my only income as well as I'm CPR certified with a nursing background in peds and adults. I think local parents would be looking for something cheaper, so you should consider charging less, especially if they're looking for full time help, that will add up and be more than most daycares, unless you're providing meals/diapers and other things. I also use childcare help here and there from local moms too and we all seem to charge around the same amount, and they have education backgrounds in childcare

@Rosie i would expect formula/milk, diapers to be provided. I can provide wipes, Along with fruit and veggies for snacks. I’ll take the cost under consideration. I thought 20was low but I could prolly do 15/hr (600-800 a week) it would be my only income.

Yea considering the cost of living in California, it is low but at $20/hr if it were a normal full time schedule such as 5 days a week, 8hr shifts, it's around $3,200 a month which most people cannot afford alot with their other bills. I know as an only income it can be difficult to make a certain amount but maybe shoot for lower hourly prices and multiple kids so it's more profitable.

Yea i gotta agree with Rosie here. My mom has been running a licensed day care in her private home and even she charges $15-17 an hour depending on age and time of day and if you think about it, 20/h is more than what some people make at their hourly jobs so it would be importable

As for most requirements for infants, keeping a log of diaper changes, feeds, and nap time is super handy, i used an app so it helped me keep better track especially with multiple kiddos, a play area, properly baby proofing everywhere the baby/ child would be or could get to. A safe place for children to take naps. Meal plan. Stuff like that is everything you’d typically see in a daycare

Agree with Rosie here. There’s a mom in my neighborhood who charges $19/hr with no sort of sibling discount. I have 2 littles and when I go back to work it would be full time. And at that rate I would be paying well over 6k which is definitely not feasible for most people, especially a family of 6 I think a good idea would be to an hourly rate for drop in/as-needed. Maybe something priced better in terms of a flat monthly fee for parents who are looking for more permanent in terms of full time/part time

If you’re only going to have one child there on top of you’re own I think $20 an hour is actually pretty cheap. It’s closer to a nanny stare and cheaper than daycare. As a mom my top requirements would be cpr certification and safety. What kind of child proofing and sleep arrangements do you have, etc. also what’s your background-do you have any early childhood development training, what is the curriculum for the day, etc.
