Royal derby hospital

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has had a bad experience on the labour ward when they’ve gone in with contractions before 37 weeks? I’ve been discharged today as my cervix has stopped dilating at 2-3cm which is fine but the whole experience there was awful which I have never had before with Derby in this pregnancy or my first and I was just wondering if anyone one else had experienced similar recently?

I found it hit and miss on there with both my pregnancies - one in 2020 admitted & was leaking waters told me I wasn’t but I started leaking meconium they never even came to check me just said it sounded normal, when staff changed over they did finally check she was brilliant, I was rushed down to delivery because baby’s heart rate was dropping. Second time hit and miss some staff were rude, telling me after my section I’d got no marks in actual fact my skin clearly reacted to the second bandage and I was covered it looked burnt. They were dismissive of huge clots without checking, were rude, refused me pain relief someone had said I was allergic to something I wasn’t and so she refused but was rude about it I had no pain relief for 10 hours & could only have paracetamol 🤷🏼‍♀️

See there were juts not happy with the fact I was progressing presumably because I am with twins which I get like I don’t want them to come this early either but that we’re making me feel like I had done something to get this to start the whole experience has put me off wanting to give birth there now and I won’t go to burton either

@shamaya did you ever report them to pals?

Yes I did, make sure you advocate for yourself

@Ema I am going to be making a pals complaint as something could have seriously gone wrong

@Becca I didn’t but I did have a debrief, she was also rude dismissed all of it said they were short staffed etc, told me she couldn’t do much about it. Left feeling like it was pretty pointless. I’d recommend reporting it though! X

This is awful :( derby was my default but I changed to chesterfield from the start, too many negative stories. Chesterfield have been great so far, I'm 35 weeks

@shamaya oh wow that’s awful! I am debating going to to safeguarding and cqc because they weren’t short staffed this weekend or at least not according to the staffing board which meant a lot of stuff shouldn’t have happened! X

@Becky see burton was my default but I won’t go there due to personal experiences I don’t trust them! But derby were amazing in my first pregnancy but this weekend has made me scared to give birth to my babies there! Chesterfield is a little to far out for me otherwise it’s an option I would behave considered x

I've had 4 babies at derby and all are traumatic stories. I'm scarred for life after each birth at derby hoping each time things would change and they never do. Ward 314 are the WORST for aftercare.

@Becca I know some people going to Kingsmill mansfield, is that an option?

@Phoebe-grace oh god I am so sorry babs! I will agree the after care on ward 314 wasn’t amazing with my first nor was the support for breastfeeding but the labour ward this weekend have really shocked me!

@Becky I’ve just had a look on the map and it’s nearly an hour away which is roughly the same as stoke so I am debating going to Stoke as I know that hospital if my labour does start To progress again x

@shamaya can I ask how you went about getting a debrief? I still have so many questions about my birth, but wonder if I've left it too late as my little one will be 2 in June, but I've only just really come to terms with everything

@Becca unfortunately she meant it as a general we don’t have enough staff, mine was mainly 314 though rather than labour ward, the high dependency was amazing but 314 isn’t great, encouraged my partner not to stay either so he could get some rest too to then visit at visiting times, after a lockdown birth he was definitely going nowhere
