They are aloud to be with you when your in labour but when they move you and baby they have to leave at 8 o'clock x
Once you give birth in your own room, you have time to shower and get yourself together and then they move you onto a ward when a bed is available. Your partner can stay with you up until then and the visiting hours for partners are between 10am and 8pm. So if you get moved down during that time, they can stay with you until 8pm but after that they need to go then
@Shaunice oh my goodness I’m so sorry that happened to you that’s awful and such a lack of care on their behalf!! I’ve heard a few stories like this and starting to make me a bit nervous. The unit is in singleton on floor 4 I think, only reason I was thinking of having baby there is if something happens I’m already at the hospital but now starting to think should I just have baby in the normal labour ward. I really hope you and baby are both doing well ❤️xx
It was so traumatising, I thought I was losing my baby! Personally, I would go to a normal labour ward next time. In port talbot your partner can stay overnight and there's a double bed and things too! In singleton it was only when we moved from ward 20 down to the transition unit that my partner could stay overnight there too! Thank you so much, she's doing so well now! Can always pop me a message to chat if you like to make up your mind?❤️
@Shaunice thank you ❤️ I’ve just popped you a message x
I had my first baby in the midwife led unit in singleton and it was an amazing experience. I went there in labour with my second baby a couple of weeks ago but had to go up to labour ward as there was meconium in my waters. I ended up staying on labour ward because there were no beds on the post natal ward so my partner was able to stay. I think it all depends where you end up and how long you need to stay. I left the same afternoon. Hope it all goes well x
I had my baby 6 wks ago in the midwife led unit. We were discharged 2 hours after giving birth but weren’t rushed away, we ended up staying for 4 hours and going home. So if everything goes okay, see no reason why you won’t be the same, I think if you need stitches then you may have to stay or if you have anything stronger than gas and air (but not sure you can have anything stronger on the midwife led anyway not 100%) Hope everything goes well xxxx
I was in the midwife led birth unit with my first baby and used the birthing pool. It was so calming and relaxing, but unfortunately for me, baby got stuck and his heart rate reached over 200 so was in cardiac arrest territory. As the labour ward is only upstairs, they rushed me up there straight away and baby was out within 10 mins via vontouse and episiotomy. So if you did start your labour in the bay birth unit and something were to go wrong, the labor ward is only a stones throw away so I wouldn't worry about anything like that. I definitely think it's worth giving it a go there first. Hope this helps x
I didn't realise there was a midwife led unit there? I went to port talbot as that's midwife led but they didn't listen to me and told me I wasn't in "active labour" and wouldn't check me again for 2 hours, I was begging for pain relief and demanded to be checked.. I was 8cm but because I was so stressed and in so much pain the baby's heart stopped beating and I was rushed to singleton for an emergency c section! The reason I say this is because you NEED to stand up for yourself in a midwife led centre, you know your body x
