Small baby

Baby is on 5th centile. Does anyone else have a small baby or had a small baby? I’m worried about what it means and the midwives are useless

It means that if you lined up 100 babies by size, yours would be the 5th from the left. It doesn't mean there's anything remotely wrong with your baby, all 100 of them would be within the range of "normal". Plus, the weight estimated from scans (or, even worse, fundal height) can be hugely off. So I would recommend not worrying about it x

Don’t panic, some babies are just small. All ours have been under 10th percentile 🥰

@Paulina yeah I know that but I meant more like what it means for birth etc

For birth - absolutely nothing

Sometimes they like to bring them earlier, I was induced with my first at 38 weeks. But you can decline if there’s no medical reason

My first was on the 4th centile! Absolutely no issues, born at 41+1 at 6lb3. Was a very hungry baby, didn’t need any extra checks and was just treated like a normal baby. She was in size newborn for 3 months then moved to 0-3m once she turned 3 months and has always been a stage behind clothes wise (great as it means she got the most out of all her clothing) Currently pregnant with a baby on 70th centile so expecting her to go into 0-3m clothes straight away🩷
