Colostrum

If you are planning to breastfeed, will you be collecting colostrum? I have my syringes and my colostrum is coming through. I just don’t know how to collect it... any tips would be great!!:) I get the C shape and all that and it works fine. But do I use a small pot? Should I sterilise that before? Is it worth collecting and saving?

Collect it straight into to syringes, express a drop, suck it up, collect a drop, suck it up. Then if you turn the syringe upside down and flick it the colostrum will fall down and you can push out the air so that you can collect a full syringe. (Although I didn’t on my first two attempts) x

I’d say have a sterile little cup or something to balance the syringe on as well. So you can massage out a bit and grab the syringe while the droplet balances 😂

I'm learning here too, not attempted it yet, but when you say 'suck' do you mean from the end of the syringe, by pulling the stopper out more? And is it the case I can keep whatever I collect in a 24hour period in the fridge and then freeze it after that?

By all means I’m no expert at all but I have the syringe ready and suck up the droplets one at a time as they come out . Or I’ve got my husband to do it so I have free hands to massage . I usually go for about an hour and just stick it straight in the freezer and then use a new syringe the next day .
