I’ve marked out next week in my calendar to give it a go 😅 if she’s not ready I will try again when she’s older.. I’m not going to stress us both out about it!
My eldest was 2.5 when she was potty trained I waited until she could tell me she needed to go and was showing other signs she was ready. I probably won't consider it until she is 2 at least x
@Naomi what approach are you going to take?
I was wondering whether it was worth investing in any of the toddler potty books to help introduce them to it?
They worked for my elder one who's now 3, she did benefit from those books. My younger one's not interested in them (yet?)
My toddler isn't showing a particular interest either but I didn't know if that was because I wasn't putting in the work - reading him potty books, showing him a potty, giving him a go etc My mother in law has been on at me since he was 3 months old saying that's when she started her 3 children on the potty (my little bit couldn't sit independently then so I suspect this is an exaggeration). I've been pushing back so hard that it occurred to me today that maybe it is time! But seems that most mum's here feel it's still too early.
We've started, but with a very slow, gradual approach. We haven't managed a pee or poo on the potty yet. He stands up when he starts peeing so it goes on the floor rather than in the potty 🙈😂
Our older daughter was 2 years 3 months when we trained her and our HV was surprised and said that’s early. I don’t plan to try with our 18 month old son but he does sometimes tell us when he’s done a poo which I’ve been impressed by. I think we’ll wait until he’s a similar age to what our daughter was when we trained her.
Also I wouldn't necessarily do the same thing if I had a 2nd child. These choices I made were v specific to my child's particular behaviour like refusing to let me put nappies on him and yet not minding sitting on potty. I made it fun, It was actually the path of least resistance for him, and it saved me having to endure the nappy changing crocodile tantrum fights that i just couldnt win. He didn't like nappies. Plus he's extremely hyperactive and I could see it getting worse as he gets older and more hyper and harder to sit down and focus so after doing research decided to follow his lead and do it earlier. I'm sure other kids are way more chill! He was dry for nap since before birthday, interested in toilet and following in to watch since army crawling. Insisted on flushing for us since climbing. Loved the potty book. Started to cry after wetting nappy and hiding to poo etc To top it off he's huge and barely fits in the largest sizes I can get for his night nappy
He's also sleeping a bit better at night going to bed on an empty bladder ❤️🙏 I can see how proud he is and dignified. I'm happy for him. And he can say poopoo and wawa (used to mean wee) but now he's saying poopoo to mean wee as well 😅
I've literally just done it for my 3 year old hahah we tried with her last year and she was not ready haha not planning on my September baby yet
