Possible to breastfeed again?

Hi lovely ladies. I wanted to check if anyone else is in the same boat. My baby is now 5 days old and is not on formula as my milk was not enough for him. I wanted to do both bottle and breast but he is not latching on 😞 I tried so many times and different positions but he is refusing. I’m pumping but I’m so disheartened. Anyone had this issue and baby latched on again? Any advise would be great as it’s making me want to cry every time thinking about it.

Definitely ask your health visitor for a referral to the infant feeding team! they have been amazing for me! ❤️

@Ellie-May have you had similar experience ? X

Yes, I had to introduce formula as she had quite a big weight loss after birth (12%) and my supply wasn’t enough to do the feeding plan that they wanted. In the end we had to keep increasing the amount of formula until it was her main source of milk, as she wasn’t latching very often or well so wasn’t getting much per feed. The health visitor got me a referral as she knew how much it meant to me to breastfeed. The lady was amazing! She came and told me so much information and then supported me in getting a good latch, even videoed baby feeding and explaining how we got her in that position and latch so I could watch it back. There are still times that baby doesn’t latch well, but she’s so much better and I know now how to adjust her to support her latch. Slowly, we are decreasing her formula feeds and she is breastfeeding so much more and seeming so much more satisfied after a breastfeed. I’d definitely recommend!!! xxx

Yes absolutely possible! Get in touch with your local infant feeding team or there is the breastfeeding network online for support. It's possible to go weeks/months without breastfeeding and then restart so 5 days is nothing! Xx

Since you must be in midwife care, you can contact community midwifery and they would support you
