When to introduce dummy

I need some advice on when to introduce a dummy to my 3 week old baby. I feel like breastfeeding is established but I’m so worried about nipple confusion and then her not latching. I did try her with a dummy at 5 days old and she did get a bit irritable when I tried to put her on the breast. But I think she needs a dummy to help soothe her. I don’t know what to do for the best, what’s everyone else’s experience?

Hi I also had tried a dummy at a couple of days old for my baby and I’m breastfeeding and it didn’t work well for latching, he wouldn’t latch properly and then I got damage from poor latch, so had to take dummy away, he 3wks old.

We had a dummy with our first and he loved it. We did however get to a point where it would fall out in the night and he would cry for it back in. This happened multiple times a night so we had to get rid. I’m not against them but sometimes you just end up replacing one habit with another x

We have used a dummy with both my EBF kiddos from about a week old to soothe their tummies as my babies tend to be grizzly when trying to go to the toilet and even though they show ‘feeding cues’ they’re not actually hungry and actually just have tummy ache. We feed every 2-3hrs and in between use a dummy if they’re uncomfortable. Never had a problem with their latch or nipple confusion thankfully ❤️ Dr Brown’s or Phillips Avent Soothie are good shapes for BF babies. They recommend a large round bulb with a tapered base rather than the flat ones xx

@EJ thank you this was really helpful as my baby is grizzly when trying to go to the toilet and I think I mistake it for being hungry! I’ve ordered some dummies so will try her when they come xx
