Harvesting colostrum- need some advice

My midwife gave me some syringes to collect and freeze colostrum and I would like to start doing it this week (38 weeks pregnant), however I'm not sure hot to collect it? My.midwife explained how to massage my breast and I have seen some videos, but my question is: what do you actually use to collect it? I don't think I could use the syringes to collect straight coming out of my nipples, or can I? I feel this is a silly question but I'm really trying to work out in my head how to do it with the syringes but dont seem to be able to see it! TIA!

As droplets appear on the nipple you can suck them up with the syringe.. It's not the easiest thing to do but I managed pretty well with practise

Colostrum is quite thick so as you massage and see droplets coming out, you can use the syringes to collect them. There are some vids on youtube to show you how to collect colostrum

Thank you for your replies, that makes sense!

Just want to add that, dont be disheartened or stressed if you cant express any or little. It is normal. The first few times i did it, nothing would come out, and when it did, it was little, about 1-2mls if any. Every body is different!

It doesn’t squirt out it’s usually little dropplets and can take a while to fill a 1ml syringe, I used to aim for 2-3ml per day (1 in morning, one middle of the day, one in night) and once I reached 39 weeks I used a pump, it’s not really reccomended as can increased chances of going into labour but I got around 2-4 per pump and was doing 10 minute pumps 3 times a day x

Thank you! It's good to know I shouldn't be expecting much- I'm trying today's so let's see how it goes🤞
