C section and exercise.

Mums who have had a c section, how long did you wait before getting back into running or light exercise? I’ve been feeling absolutely fine and my midwife did say listen to my body and do what I feel comfortable doing. (She maybe didn’t mean running) I’m 3 weeks post section and as I’ve been feeling back to normal I decided to go for a small light run yesterday. Today I feel a bit sore around the scar area, not the actual scar but internally around the scar. In this just normal for starting back into exercise or my body telling me to calm down?

Usually wait 6 weeks - it's major surgery. Have you had your pelvic floor assessed?

Deffo calm down !! Your only 3 weeks pp from major surgery remember its inside that counts too youll have plenty of time to get back to it dont over do it and then youll put yourself back the way! I had a section on the 17th so i know how annoying taking it easy is

@ED93 I haven’t yet no, i didn’t think my pelvic floor would be affected so much since I had a c section x

@Lisa it is frustrating, I gained a fair amount of weight during pregnancy and I’m the biggest I’ve been so I’ve just been really keen to get back to exercising to help shift the weight x

I feel you but we have plenty of time to shift it again enjoy those baby cuddles did your 6 weeks atleast and start off slow and build it up x

I received an exercise booklet from the physio therapist at The Portland Hospital. It states that slow running could be incorporated from 6 to 12 weeks. Mainly walking and fast walking are recommended 0 to 6 weeks. The guide suggests focusing on pelvic floor and strength and conditioning exercises before doing significant impact activities.
